Hello World Language Center is a language and culture resource center
for the international community. In addition to our language programs,
we offer a world renowned TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of
Other Languages) and Teaching Foreign Languages Certification Program.
The Teacher Certification Program usually consists of four quarterly
semesters, and upon successful completion of the program, offers
New York State TESOL certification.
The Teacher Certification Program is an excellent opportunity for
teachers already certified and experienced in other areas of education
to get concentrated training and certification in TESOL. It is also
very helpful for people new to the field of education who want to
gain practical and theoretical training in language teaching. In
addition, people studying in areas unrelated to teaching can use
this program to augment their major area of concentration to increase
job opportunities, and/or expand their scholarship to an international
perspective.
The program gives an overview of TESOL methodology from traditional
to cutting edge. This includes Hello World’s own language
learning theory, as well as an introduction to many other methods.
It also includes a treatment of various topics related to culture
and international studies. In addition to this theory, students
are given practical training in the language of their choice. By
so doing, Hello World is able to offer a strong basis of TESOL expertise
in an environment which encourages the TESOL student to be a part
of the on-going dialogue on language and culture learning.
Hello World Language Center is known for integrating cultural awareness
into the language learning process, and empowering both the teacher
and the student in student-centered learning environments which
are created through a partnership with the student and teacher.
Through the Teacher Certification Program, TESOL students are offered
an eclectic mix of ideas and scholarship from leaders in the field
of TESOL, culture and language learning. We highlight speakers each
month to present on the various topics covered in the Teacher Training
Program. In addition, each month TESOL students participate in a
workshop format seminar in which these topics are discussed in further
detail, and students are able to take an active part in the discussion.
Finally, at the completion of the Certification Program, students
are expected to prepare a paper on a topic related to the field,
and to present it.
There is no other TESOL Certification program like
ours in New York City. Only $75 a month, classes meet the second and fourth Saturday of every month and are taught by the
school's founder, Yetta G. Kurland, who is also an adjunct professor at New York University. The program lasts approximately
one year, but may be shortened by opting for the intensive track.
Participants of the Teacher Certification Program are also offered
foreign language training by Hello World Language Center.
